October 20th-24th Is Spirit Week

Spirit Week is this week and the theme is "Bully-Free" 

Monday is "Team up against bullying" so wear your favorite sports shirt.
Tuesday is: "Don't let bullying turn you wacky, so dress tacky"
Wednesday is Unity Day:  Everyone wear orange to stand together against bullying
Thursday is "Don't Hide, Stand up against Bullying" so wear your camo!
Friday is "Let's put bullying to rest" so wear your pajamas!

Congratulations to Mrs. Meagan Carey!

Our school Counselor, Mrs. Meagan Carey, has been asked to be a presenter at the NC School Counselor Association Fall Conference in Greensboro in November. The title of her session will be Refresh, Rebuild, and Reboot. Good luck Mrs. Carey!

Congratulations to Mrs. Priscilla Dunn!
Governor's Teacher Network
   Governor's Teacher Network selected 450 teachers across North Carolina to develop lessons or conduct action research within their classrooms and share results across the state.  Mrs. Dunn was selected to conduct action research in the area of vocabulary instruction and impacts on learning. She will share her research and results with staff of Burnsville Elementary, Yancey County Schools and school systems across the state of North Carolina. For this work, Mrs. Dunn will be awarded $10,000.


Congratulations Grant Winners
Congratulations to Erin McKinney-Tipton, Rebecca Fox, Priscilla Dunn, and Renee Duncan
 for being awarded grants from FBEMC Bright Ideas. 

Erin’s title was “Cross Train Your Brain”, in which she will use Zumba in after-school to help stimulate student’s brains. Rebecca’s title was Project ALIVE; Accessing Literature Independently, Vigorously, and Enthusiastically. Rebecca also received the YCF Foundation Grant for this same project. Priscilla’s grant “Who Wrote the Book of Love” will be used to create a compassion book for each student in fifth grade. Renee’s title “Microorganisms in the Classroom” will be used to purchase microscopes for her 5th grade science classes.
